The ruling Trinamool Congress along with the opposition Left Front and Congress today passed a resolution in the Assembly condemning the Centre's move to disinvest various PSUs including Burn Standard.
The BJP legislature party, however, opposed it saying that the state government should stop politicizing every issue just to score political brownie points.
A discussion was conducted in the House on "Deprivation of the state by the central government", which was moved by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Partha Chatterjee.
While speaking on the resolution, he slammed the BJP led central government for trying to sell out various PSUs including Navratna and Miniratna companies and instead has started "Ambani Ratna and Adani Ratna companies".
"Don't try to make this country America within a day. You have to understand the needs of the people," he said.
Chatterjee said a company may not be performing well now but that doesn't mean it would not perform well in future.
"It doesn't mean you will just sell it off," he said after criticizing the central government's reported plans to close down Burn Standard, a PSU that manufactures railway wagons, and seeking global bids for the strategic divestment of the ailing Alloy Steels Plant in Durgapur.
Left Front Legislative party leader Sujan Chakraborty accused the central government of behaving in such a way that PSUs are personal property of BJP leaders.
West Bengal BJP president and MLA Dilip Ghosh said the several PSUs including Burn Standard had incurred heavy losses due to the wrong policies of the Congress government at the Centre and Left Front government at the state level.
"I don't agree with the language that it is a deprivation against the state. The Centre has taken up a pan-India policy that those units which are not performing well and are incurring losses will be disinvested. It has nothing to do with Bengal alone," he said.
"If the TMC can bring in an all-party resolution, can't it send in all-party team to the Centre to discuss and sort out the matter," he said.
