The Trinamool Congress today opposed the cabinet decision on the closure of the Burn and Standard Company in West Bengal and has decided to raise the issue in both Houses of Parliament tomorrow.
The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi today approved the closure of the Burn Standard Company Ltd (BSCL) - a Central Public Sector Enterprise (CPSE) under the Ministry of Railways.
"This decision has been taken in view of the continuous poor physical and financial performance of the company for more than 10 years despite financial assistance and other support provided by the government, and low probability of its revival in the future," the cabinet release said.
Opposing the cabinet decision, the TMC has said that they have already submitted notices in both Houses of Parliament.
"TMC strongly opposes the cabinet decision on Burn Standard. We have submitted notices in the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha against the decision," the TMC statement said.
The ruling Trinamool Congress along with the opposition Left Front and the Congress had earlier passed a resolution in the West Bengal Assembly condemning the Centre's move to disinvest various PSUs, including the Burn Standard.
The BJP legislature party, however, had opposed it, saying the West Bengal state government should stop politicising every issue just to score political brownie points.
