The Trinamool Congress today ruled out a discussion on the bank fraud issue in the Assembly as demanded by the Opposition, saying it is a sub-judice matter.

Following the denial, the opposition accused the ruling party of having a tacit understanding with the BJP.

"We cannot discuss the PNB issue in the Assembly as the matter is sub-judice and is being discussed in Parliament. A state Assembly cannot discuss such a matter at this stage," West Bengal Parliamentary Affairs Minister Partha Chatterjee told reporters.

The Congress and the CPI(M) were quick to hit back and said the denial in holding a discussion is a 'proof' of tacit understanding between the TMC and the BJP.

"When we had submitted the proposal for holding the discussion, we had apprehensions whether it would be accepted or not. Now it has been proved that the TMC and the BJP have a tacit understanding and that is why they don't want to discuss the matter," Leader of Opposition and Congress MLA Abdul Mannan said.

A political slugfest is on between the BJP and the Congress over the PNB scam with both parties blaming each other for allowing Nirav Modi, the alleged kingpin of the PNB scam, and his associates to flourish during their respective tenures.

The PNB, the second largest state-run bank, had on February 14 informed the exchanges about detecting USD 1.77 billion fraud at its Brady House branch in Mumbai and named the firms led by Modi and his uncle Mehul Choksi's Gitanjali Group, and some other diamond and jewellery merchants as suspects.
