TMC wins four RS seats, LF one in West Bengal

Four Trinamool Congress candidates and a Left Front nominee were elected in the election to five Rajya Sabha seats from West Bengal today.

The victorious Trinamool Congress candidates are filmstar Mithun Chakraborty, painter Jogen Chowdhury and K D Singh and Ahmed Hasan.

The Left Front winner is Ritabrata Banerjee, a student leader belonging to CPI(M).

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee told reporters in the assembly lobby "I am happy that four of our candidates have won. I congratulate them. They will work in the interest of the state as well as the country."

There were six candidates in the fray for five seats.
 

The Congress-backed Independent A S Malihabadi was defeated.
