Ahead of the January seven students' union elections in colleges in Birbhum district, BJP's student wing leaders alleged that they had been forcibly prevented from filing nomination papers today.

Rupak Mondal, district president of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyathi Parishad (ABVP), alleged that in eight colleges TMC supporters prevented their supporters from receiving and submitting nomination papers.

Mondal said that the colleges were situated at Bolpur, Hetampur, Khoyrasole and Illambazar.

He told reporters that they lodged a complaint with the Khyarasole police station alleging that their supporters were forcibly prevented from filing nominations while policemen remained "mute spectators".

Denying the charge, Trinamool Chhatra Parishad (TMCP), Trinamool Congress student wing, leaders claimed that the ABVP supporters failed to receive nominations because they had no support base in those colleges.

Suranjan Chatterjee , president of district TMCP, alleged that no minimum support base of ABVP existed in those colleges to merit receipt of nominations.
