TN announces Chief Minister's Award for Youth; to draft policy

Acknowledging the efforts made by youth in societal development and nation building, Tamil Nadu government today instituted the Chief Minister's Award for youth and said it would draft a separate policy for them.

The government would draft a separate policy for youth in the state in an attempt to make their efforts complete in nation building, Chief Minister Jayalalithaa said, making a suo motu statement in the Assembly.

Three men and three women aged between 15 and 35 years would be selected and honoured every Independence Day with the award, comprising a cash prize of Rs 50,000, a medal and a citation, she said.
 

The government has also alloted Rs four crore towards renovating sports facilities in Tiruchirappalli, Kanyakumari, Kanchipuram and Dindigul districts, while another Rs three crore would be alloted to renovate 25 swimming pools in 23 districts, she said.

A sum of Rs 18.03 crore has been alloted to construct infrastructure in Tamil Nadu Physical Education and Sports University at Melakottaiyur, the Chief Minister said.
