TN CEO appointed observer for RS polls

Election Commission of India today appointed Tamil Nadu Chief Electoral officer Praveen Kumar as Observer for the February 7 Rajya Sabha polls.

"In exercise of the powers conferred under Section 20B of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, the Election Commission of India has appointed the Chief Electoral Officer, Tamil Nadu as the Observer" for the biennial elections, an official release here said.

The terms of six Rajya Sabha MPs from Tamil Nadu-- two each from Congress and DMK and one each from AIADMK and CPI-M- are ending by April 2.

Polling, if necessary, will be held on February 7. DMK has already announced Tiruchi N Siva as its candidate.
