: Industry body Confederation of Indian Industry (CII)-Tamil Nadu unit on Thursday welcomed the electric vehicle policy announced by the state government and said the objectives were in consonance with national frameworks related to clean transportation.
CII Tamil Nadu State Council, Chairman, S Chandramohan while welcoming the policy, said there is no doubt that policy interventions are required to promote both manufacturing and marketing of electric vehicles in the state.
The policy promises to be technology agnostic as it provides supply side and demand incentives, he said in a press release.
The announcement of 100 per cent road tax exemption was a good measure and incentives like reimbursement of state goods and services tax, electricity tax were indeed welcome initiative.
Any policy intervention with respect to electric vehicle adoption must take into account the fact that the shift to electric vehicles need to happen over a period of time taking into confidence the existing automotive and related industries in the state, he added.
Seeking to promote electric vehicles, the the Tamil Nadu government on Monday announced its policy for the sector offering a slew of sops, including investment subsidy and waiver of various taxes and duties.
