Finance Minister O Panneerselvam has been appointed as Leader of the Tamil Nadu Assembly again, replacing Natham R Viswanathan who was named to the post last year.

"O Panneerselvam, Minister for Finance and Public Works is appointed Leader of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly," a Legislative Assembly notification dated August 12 said in the Tamil Nadu government Gazette.

After Jayalalithaa was disqualified following her conviction last year in the case, Panneerselvam, who was till then the Leader of the House, became Chief Minister.

Natham R Viswanathan, the next in command, became the Leader of the House.

Now, with Jayalalithaa back in saddle as Chief Minister (in May) after the Karnataka High Court acquitted her, setting aside a trial court order, Panneerselvam is back as Leader of the House.

The announcement comes ahead of the commencement of the Tamil Nadu Assembly session on August 24.
