: Tamil Nadu Governor Ch Vidyasagar Rao today condoled the death of former Governor of the state, Surjit Singh Barnala, and hailed him as a senior statesman and a nationalist.
"I am deeply shocked and grieved to hear about the sad demise of Surjit Singh Barnala. Barnala was a senior statesman, nationalist, Parliamentarian and was known for his administrative acumen and had held the gubernatorial post in various states and had also served as Union Minister and Chief Minister of Punjab," Rao said.
Barnala had dedicated his life for the uplift of farmers and the downtrodden and was a self taught artist, a humble and pious person who had also authored many books, he said.
"His death is an irreparable loss to the nation and to Punjab in particular. I convey my sincere condolences to the bereaved members of the family and pray to God to rest his soul in peace," Rao said in a Raj Bhavan statement.
