Tamil Nadu Government today opposed in the Madras High Court a plea for extending concession in the minimum qualifying marks for reserved category candidates in Teachers Eligibility Test (TET), saying it had taken a policy decision not to compromise on quality of teachers.
This was stated in a common counter by Teacher Recruitment Board Member Secretary and Tamil Nadu Teachers Eligibility Test Member to a petition filed by Central and state government Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes Employees Federation seeking concession in the qualifying marks.
The counter said the qualifying marks had been fixed at 60 per cent for TET which was only a pre-requisite eligibility test for appointment as a teacher.
The qualifying marks had been fixed in order to ensure quality education, it said adding the government had taken a policy decision not to compromise on the quality of teachers and not to grant relaxation to any of the categories.
The counter sought dismissal of the petition.
