TN govt allots Rs 2,000 cr for distribution of fans, mixies

The ruling AIADMK today widened the appeal of its populist scheme of distributing free fans, mixies and grinders to beneficiaries by allotting Rs 2,000 crore for giving 90 lakh appliances for 2014-15 and 2015-16.

The distribution of free mixies, grinders, and fans is one of the populist schemes announced by the AIADMK Government when it stormed to power in May 2011.

Minister for Information and Special Programme Implementation K T Rajenthra Bhalaji who chaired a meeting here to review the scheme's progress, said government had distributed 25 lakh units of electric fans, mixies, and grinders in 2011-12, 35 lakh in 2012-13, and another 35 lakh in 2013-14.
 

"So far, 95 lakh units of electric fans, mixies, and grinders have been distributed to beneficiaries. 45 lakh units have been planned for 2014-15, and another 45 lakh for 2015-16. A sum of Rs 2,000 crore has been alloted," an official release quoting him said.

After reviewing it's progress, Bhalaji directed officials to distribute fans, mixies, and grinders soon to beneficiaries.

He also discussed the requirement of the products in all districts, procurement and suitable storage places for these appliances, so that the target would be achieved soon, the release said.
