The City Public Prosecutor filed a suit in the court of Principal Sessions Judge on a story in 'The Times of India,' which appeared on August 25 this year, saying it was "prima facie libellous" and the caption was "malicious", giving a meaning that roads in Tamil Nadu are not safe for people.

The government said the imputations in the report were without any basis or verification and was indented to defame the administration of the Chief Minister and the government.

It further prayed that the Court take cognizance of the complaint, proceed against the accused and punish them for offences under Section 500 (Punishment for defamation) and 501 (printing or engraving matter known to be defamatory) of the IPC.
