TN govt provides Rs 50 lakh for World Junior Squash event

The Tamil Nadu government has given Rs 50 lakh towards the conduct of the World Junior Squash Championship, which is commencing here tomorrow.

Chief Minister K Palaniswami presented a cheque for the amount to Tamilnadu Squash Rackets Association President N Ramchandran yesterday, an official release said.

The fund was given in response to a plea by the association, an official release said today.

Over 170 participants from 28 countries including hosts India, Egypt, Australia, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, Singapore and Scotland, are competing in the tournament being held from tomorrow till July 29.

The release also said Palaniswami inaugurated various facilities at the Tamil Nadu Physical Education And Sports University at Melakottaiyur in neighbouring Kancheepuram district.

 

The Chief Minister inaugurated the facilities, constructed at Rs 16.03 crore, through video-conferencing from here, it added.
