Ahead of the Bakrid celebrations tomorrow, Tamil Nadu Governor, Chief Minister and other senior leaders in the state extended their greetings to the people.
Governor K Rosaiah in his Bakrid greetings said, "On the solemn occasion of Bakrid - 'Id-ul-Zuha', I extend my heartiest greetings and best wishes to all my Muslim brothers and sisters."
"May 'The Festival of Sacrifice' which also marks the end of the annual Hajj to Mecca promote religious faith, the spirit of sharing and giving, unity, amity, peace and harmony," he said.
In his message, Chief Minister O Panneerselvam said, "In order to destroy injustice, conspiracy and violence, which pose obstacles to the country's development and society progress, we need good thoughts and morals. Let's pledge to stand firmly on holy principles for humanity on this day of Bakrid."
DMK chief and former chief minister M Karunanidhi in his message observed that reformist Periyar and former chief minister C N Annadurai have always held that Islam was a religion for a good life, since it laid out morals for humans in every day life.
Listing out some of the quotes in Islam, he said, "I extend my heartiest Bakrid wishes to all those Muslims who follow the morals and principles laid out in Islam and lead a righteous life."
DMDK founder and principal opposition leader Vijayakanth in his greetings message, said, "Let this day help blurring the divide between the rich and the poor, as they share 'Qurbani' with equal opportunity and equal rights. I extend my Bakrid wishes to all Muslim friends."
Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president B S Gnanadesikan also extended his Bakrid greetings to the people.
