Tamil Nadu Governor K Rosiah, Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa and DMK President M Karunanidhi, among others, today greeted women on the eve of International Women's Day.
Rosaiah said women constituted almost half of the world's population and described them as "builders of home and the pillars of society".
Improving their status brings development to the family and the nation, he said in a Raj Bhavan statement.

In her greetings, Jayalalithaa praised women for their intellect and efficiency and wished them success in all their endeavours.
The AIADMK chief recalled the various welfare measures implemented by her government targeting women including the flagship free milch cows and goats scheme and range of financial assistance programmes including those for marriage and education and the recent 50 per cent reservation for them in local bodies.
DMK chief Karunanidhi also extended his greetings and recalled the various welfare measures initiated by his party-led governments at different points of time for them including opening of new educational institutions and launching an air hostess training scheme for 'Adi Dravida' women.
TNCC president EVKS Elangovan and TMC Leader G K Vasan also extended their greetings.
