TN HR&CE sets up expert panel

: The Tamil Nadu HR and CE department today informed the Madras High Court that an expert committee has been set up as per its direction to go into the issue of renovation and repair of some temples in the state.

The matter relates to the suo motu PIL taken up by the court on renovation of temples and Heritage structures in the state.

The HR&CE informed the court that the members on the panel are: Structural Engineering Expert Dr.Arun Menon, Assistant Professor, Structural Engineering Lab, IIT, Ms. Maheswari, Superintending Archeologist, Conservation Expert Sathyamoorthy, Traditional Sthapathi Padmashri Muthiah;

Two Agama Experts one from Vaishnava and another from Shaiva-- Stala Shayana Bhattacharyar (Vaikhanasa Agama Vidvan, Vyakarana Siromani, Kancheepuram, Dr.S. Arunasundaram, M.A. M.Phil., Ph.D. (Shaivagama), Assistant Professor of Vyakarana, Madras Sanskrit College, Mylapore and Member Secretary-Additional Commissioner (Thiruppani), HR&CE Department.
 

On November 4, the court had directed HR&CE department to form an expert committee of structural engineers and archaeology, among others, for the purpose of renovation and repair of some temples.

The court had on December 10, 2015 directed the department to go slow in renovations and repairs for the time being till a proper path is laid ahead. On August 23 this year it had directed HR&CEto proceed as per suggestions of UNESCO.

After recording the HR & CE's submission,the court directed it to place before it the progress made in connection with the UNESCO report in the above regard and posted the matter for further hearing to December 21.
