Tamil Nadu Governor K Rosaiah, AIADMK General Secretary J Jayalalithaa and DMK President M Karunanidhi today condoled the death of V R Krishna Iyer, former judge of the Supreme Court.
Expressing shock over Iyer's demise, Rosaiah, in a release, described him as a "great legendary" known for "legal acumen and simplicity".
"The passing away of this great legal luminary has left a void in the judiciary. He had on no occasion hesitated to give a call to uphold the principles of democracy, law and justice," he said.

"Apart from being an erudite judge, he was a great humanitarian and social worker. His distinctiveness was evident in the fact that he served as a politician, legislator and administrator before he made a phenomenal mark as Judge of the Supreme Court," she said.
Noting that Iyer's constant activism and commitment to national and social issues would be remembered for ever, she said, "he will remain a beacon light for legal luminaries and his legendary and sterling judgments will guide generations to come".
Condoling Iyer's death, Karunanidhi said his comments against the death sentence would remain forever in Indian judiciary.
"Having served as member of Kerala Legislative Assembly, a Minister in Kerala government and also finally as a Judge of Supreme Court, Iyer is known for making creative and humanitarian comments without any fear," Karunanidhi said.
Leaders from CPI and CPI(M) also condoled the death of Iyer.
