Terming the leadership crisis in Tamil Nadu as "internal affairs" of AIADMK, Congress today demanded that the Governor act in accordance with the constitutional provisions and the framework set up by the apex court to handle the situation.

Concerned over the developments in the southern state after the demise of chief minister J Jayalalithaa, Congress MLAs from Tamil Nadu met party vice president Rahul Gandhi and discussed the prevailing political situation there.

Sources said the state Congress leaders met Gandhi at his residence for around an hour, but the party is yet to come out with its stand on which faction to side with.

"Tamil Nadu is an internal affair of the AIADMK. But we want the Governor to act in accordance with the Constitutional provisions and also with Supreme Court framework," senior party leader M Veerappa Moily said during a party briefing.

The factions led by caretaker Chief Minister O Panneerselvam and Jayalalithaa's former aide V K Sasikala have staked their claims over the chief ministership, with both claiming the support of majority MLAs.
