TN legislators want more colleges

Demand for setting up higher educational institutions, especially arts and science colleges seems to be the request of most of the elected representatives in the Tamil Nadu Assembly, with most of them seeking at least one college in their respective constituencies.

While the state had 2,495 higher educational institutions, including 574 engineering, 707 Arts and Science, 501 Polytechnic and 709 Educational Colleges - the maximum in the country, legislators were still demanding for colleges, Higher Education Minister P Palaniappan said.

The state was already leading in the country with maximum number of colleges,he said replying to V S Raji (AIADMK-Cheyyur) during question hour.
 

The state government under the leadership of Chief Minister Jayalalithaa had set up 53 colleges since she came to power for the third time in May 2011,the Minister observed.
