A ruling AIADMK MLA Saturday latched on to epic Ramayana in the Assembly and the "two leaves," blessings received by Lord Hanuman from Sita to seek a polytechnic in his constituency.

During 'Question Hour', I S Inbadurai said when Lord Hanuman sought the blessings of Sita when he met her at Asokavanam, she blessed him with two betel leaves, and said it would bring him victory.

Though usually blessings are done by showering flowers or 'atchathai' (turmeric laced rice after prayers), Sita blessed Hanuman with the leaves, since only that was available.

When DMK member S Pugazhenthi asked if this had anything to do with the supplementary question that the ruling member wanted to raise, Speaker P Dhanapal tasked the member representing Radhapuram (Tirunelveli District) to pose his question.

Continuing, Inbadurai said like Lord Hanuman, Chief Minister K Palaniswami has got the "two leaves," (apparently referring to AIADMK's two leaves symbol) and any scheme that will be announced Saturday will be "victorious," as it is Hanuman Jayanthi, he said and appealed for a polytechnic college at Valliyur in his constituency.

Higher Education Minister K P Anbazhagan said the plea will be looked into if the enrolment ratio was high in that region.

Earlier, when another ruling party legislator P Sathya wanted a polytechnic college at Panruti (Cuddalore District), the minister reeled out data on a chunk of vacant seats vis-a-vis the sanctioned strength in government, State-aided and private colleges and added that the plea may be considered on need basis.
