TN to provide modular limbs for differently abled sportspersons

A maximum of Rs two lakh will be provided to differently abled sportspersons according to age and need of the beneficiaries

Differently abled sportspersons in Tamil Nadu can now hope to improve their performance as the state government today announced implementation of a Rs 50 lakh scheme from the current fiscal to provide them modular prosthetic limbs.

Social Welfare Minister B Valarmathi today informed the state Assembly that a maximum of Rs two lakh will be provided to differently abled sportspersons according to the age and need of the beneficiaries.

A total of Rs 50 lakh would be allocated for the scheme, benefitting 25 differently abled sportspersons, she said.

The Minister claimed that modular limb would bring about a remarkable improvement in the performances of differently abled sportspersons at the state and national level sports meets, besides para-olympic events.
 

She said the Department of Welfare of Differently Abled persons would be digitised and a consulting agency appointed for the purpose at an estimated cost of Rs 25 lakh.
