TN to host a Badminton League for national players in Aug

Tamil Nadu Badminton Association (TNBA) headed by former Union Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss would be hosting a prize money Badminton Premier League tournament in the city for the national level players starting from August 2 to 5.

Addressing a press conference here today, Ramadoss said eight teams captained by star players like India number one and two, Sameer Varma (Air India) and Abhimanyu Singh of Madhya Pradesh and Subhankar Dey (Number 4-Maharashtra) would compete for top honours in the league sponsored by Lining-SLT India and 100 PLUS.

The name of the teams are Fire Birds, Marina Smashers, Falcon Fire, Legion Lions, Kovai Kings, Royal Knights, Hindustan Racquets and Vellore Warriors.
 

Talking about the teams in fray, Ramadoss said: "Some patrons have continued to show their strong support for the sport. They are interested in the widespread reach of the game and have never disappointed in pledging allegiance. They are the proud owners of the team Sagar (FB), Muppitathi (MS), Senthil Kumar( FF), Siva Kumar (LL), Robert Raja /Balasubramaniam (KK), Abhinesh Elangovan (RK), Hindustan University (HR), Surendranath/ Elangovan (VW).

According to a press release by the organisers, the Icon players would be Sanave Thomas, Alwin Francis, Arun Vishnu, Nandagopal, Sameer Varma, Sourabh Verma, Shlok Ramachandran, Sanyam and Bennett, Suraj PH, Gopi Raju, Ram C Vijay, Arjun Kumar Reddy and Arun George.

Junior players like M R Arun, Chirag Shetty, Siril Verma, Rahul Yadav, Kanishk Anand, Satwik Sai Raj R, Krishna Prasad G, Harshit Agarwal would also be seen in action.

Among girls, Ruthvika Shivani, P C Tulsi, Rituparna, Sayali Gokhale, Tanvi lad, Vrushali Malthankar, Kanika Kanwal would be competing amongst the eight teams.
