"The government would take steps to fill up 50 per cent of the seats in private industrial technical institutes. These seats would be filled up through counselling in all districts, like the way it is done in government institutes", Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa told the Assembly in a suo motu statement.
The fee for these students would be borne by the state government, she said, adding, "the government would pay Rs 10,000 each for students in institutes in rural areas and Rs 12,000 each for urban areas".
The government runs 62 ITIs and trains over 21,000 students, while there are 627 private ITIs in the state, which could train over 60,320 students.
"These private institutes collect Rs 20,000 to Rs 25,000 for rural areas and Rs 25,000 to Rs 30,000 in urban areas. Over 50 per cent seats in these private institutes were lying vacant since many talented students could not pay the fee structure", she said.
Creating skilled labour force was vital towards her goal of Tamil Nadu Vision 2023, she said.
