TN woman arrives after five harrowing months in Malaysia

A 40-year-old woman, who was assured of a job in an old age home in Malaysia but allegedly detained in a house for five months where she reportedly had to work for more than 15 hours, arrived here today thanks to an NGO which got in touch with External Affairs Ministry for her release.

Ramalakshmi of Madurai was assured of a job in the old age home for a monthly payment of Rs.15000. But to her shock she found that she had been sold for Rs.One lakh for working as a slave in a house, she told reporters here.

She claimed that she had paid Rs.50,000 for the job. But she was detained in the house where she had to work more than 15 hours for five months.
 

She alleged that she was not given any salary and tortured if she raised any objection. The NGO, Consumer Rights Protection Movement, which came to know about her plight, informed the DSP of Avaniapuram,who detained the Agent who had sent Ramalakshmi.

Ramalakshmi, who had left for Malaysia last year, said the NGO also informed the External Affairs Ministry which got in touch with the Malaysian government to secure her release.
