Press Trust of India Chennai
Tamil Nadu state Congress chief E V K S Elangovan today downplayed the reported remarks of P Chidmabaram on party's prospects in Assembly elections next year, saying it was his personal view.

"It was his personal view and not that of the party and our party has good prospects in next year's Assembly elections," Elangovan told reporters here.

Addressing a party workers meet in his native Sivaganga district yesterday, Chidambaram had reportedly said Congress could not win the Assembly elections as only about 12 months were left for it and hence would work hard for success in the local body elections by fielding young candidates.

There is now a lull after weeks of bickering between Chidambaram and Elangovan camps in the state Congress.

Recently, Elangovan dropped disciplinary action against six loyalists of Chidambaram after they gave an explanation to the AICC.
