Tamil Nadu Congress Committee today announced its support to ally DMK for the April 12 assembly bypoll for the Dr Radhakrishnan Nagar constituency here.

"Tamil Nadu Congress Committee will support DMK's candidate in the R K Nagar bypoll and I am announcing this with the concurrence of the party high command," TNCC President Su Thirunavukkarasar said.

In a statement here, he appealed to Congress workers to work for the victory of the DMK candidate in the bypoll.

Meanwhile, DMK Working President M K Stalin said "the victory prospect in RK Nagar seat is bright for us." The party will announce the candidate after scrutinising all the applications from aspirants, he told reporters here.

He said applications will be received till March 13 beginning today.

Answering a question, Stalin said he will visit tomorrow the family of a young fisherman in Rameswaram who lost his life in the alleged firing by Sri Lankan Navy recently and added that his party MPs have raised problems faced by fishermen in Parliament today.

He blamed the AIADMK government for the drinking water problem being faced here and elsewhere in the State. He alleged that "Sasikala's (AIADMK General Secretary) proxy regime," is not worried about such people's issues.
