To conserve power, AP to distribute two crore LED bulbs

Andhra Pradesh government will distribute two LED bulbs to each of the around one crore consumer families in the state.

The state energy department said this was expected to save 500 MW of power and also cut down the power bills of consumers.

LED (Light Emitting Diode) bulbs are considered to be more energy-efficient than conventional bulbs.

In Guntur district, 12.5 lakh bulbs have already been distributed so far. Efforts are on to roll out the scheme in all the districts and complete distribution by the end of next financial year, it said in a release today.

Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu said that the coming year may become 'year of energy conservation', the release added.
