The best way to keep the youth away from the menace of drug addiction is to channelise their energies towards sports, Inspector General of Police S D Singh Jamwal said here today.
The IGP, Jammu zone, inaugurated a new modern gymnasium at District Police Lines (DPL) Udhampur. The gymnasium has been named after Sub Inspector (SI) Imran Tak, who was martyred while fighting militants in Kashmir lastmonth.
"The best way to keep the youth away from the menace of drug addiction is to channelise their energies towards sports activities," Jamwal said.

"Drugs and substance abuse affects the capabilities and energies of the youth and it is the responsibility of all stakeholders to worktogether and eradicate the growing menace," he said.
"The initiative of Udhampur Police towards this social responsibility is worthwhile and will go a long way in engaging the local youth, including police personnel, in sportsactivities and thereby keeping them physically and mentally fit to meet future challenges," Jamwal said.
He also referred to the stressful nature of police duties and said that such initiatives would help keep personnel mentally and physically fit.
The senior police official also inspected the drug de- addiction centre and other construction and ugradation works going on in District Police Lines (DPL) Udhampur.
He also chaired a quick crime review meeting to take stock of crime management issues and directed officers to focus on narcotics, miscreants, absconders and traffic violators.
