To maintain calm, youths to be designated as peace messengers

In urban areas, 10 to 15 youths from each ward and at the village-level sarpanch and five other persons will be designated as messengers of peace, an official spokesman said here today.

These messengers will spread the message of peace in villages and cities from time to time and will also assist the administration to check any kind of communal violence, he said.

Deputy Commissioner J Ganeshan had convened a meeting of former and sitting Municipal Councillors and asked them to identify 15 youths each from their respective wards, the spokesman said.

The "peace messengers" will be issued identity cards by the district administration, he said.

 

Apart from this, they will be imparted training in first aid and also on how to maintain peace in the city, the spokesman said.

Services of youths will also be sought in preventing any rumour in villages and cities, the spokesman said.
