The Kanpur authorities today banned the sale and consumption of tobacco and related products in the premises of district collectorate, with an aim of spreading awareness about its ill-effects and making the city a tobacco-free zone.
Kicking off a special anti-tobacco campaign, the Kanpur district administration today banned the sale and consumption of tobacco, pan masala, and related products in the premises of district collectorate, according to an official statement.
The statement added that the work for removing all such shops from inside the premises has already commenced and that a fine will be imposed on the defaulters.

The drive has been started with the intention of spreading awareness about the ill-effects of tobacco, it said.
The selling of tobacco has also been banned within the 100 meters of all schools located here. Officials have been directed to remove the shops selling tobacco and other related products from the area, it said.
Instructions have been issued to collect fines from the shopkeepers who will continue to sell these products.
