A one-and-half-year-old boy was today killed by his grandfather, suspected to be mentally unsound, at their house in neighbouring Vanrapet.
Velu (52) was today playing with the child when he suddenly picked him up and repeatedly banged the toddler on the floor, police said.
The boy's parents immediately rushed the child to the government hospital where he was declared brought dead, they said.
The parents filed a complaint with police after which Velu was arrested.
