The education department unveiled a School Teachers' Attendance Monitoring System which empowers parents and guardians to report absenteeism among teachers.
"We are taking this step to monitor attendance of teachers. Under this every morning at 10.30 am call would be made by staff from Rashtriya Madhyamik Siksha Abhijan to principals or vice principals or other senior staff present to asking about the presence of teachers," Assam Education and Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said here.
Calls could also be made to parents and guardians whose numbers are with the education department to check attendance of teachers.
Besides parents and guardians can directly complain to the education department of they find any teacher to be absent during school period.
If any teacher is found to be absent administrative inquiries would be made to find the reason and action taken if reasons are found to be not valid, the minister said.
The toll free number would be for lower primary and primary schools.

In case of secondary and higher secondary schools there would be provision of Computerised Attendance Monitoring.
The system is to be implemented in 24 out of the 27 districts across Assam and later extended to the rest three.
Besides, for schools which are seeking provicialisation the state government has also called for all relevant documents by November 30.
