Two more women succumbed to their injuries today, taking the total number of persons killed in a road accident in Rajpipla to seven, police said.

Five persons had died last evening in the chakkda-truck collision after one of the tyres of a truck burst. The driver subsequently lost control of the heavy vehicle and rammed into the vehicle before hitting a tree.

A chakkda is a top-open rickshaw in which seven to eight persons can be accommodated.

Four of the five persons, who died last evening, were women returning from work while the only man to perish in the mishap was the driver of the chhakda.

Rajpipla Police Sub Inspector (PSI) A B Rana said that the driver of the truck fled from the mishap spot immediately leaving the vehicle behind.

Rana said that officials of Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) have reached the site of the accident to collect clues.

Police have identified the deceased as Sonal Vasava (30), Rekha Patanwadia (30), driver Ambalal Tadvi (40), Chandan Khatri (41) and Hemashree Patanwadia (28).

The two women, who succumbed to their injuries, are Aruna Madhav (51) and Subhadra Vakil (35), police said.

All the deceased belong to Narmada district. Police have initiated a search for the truck driver.
