Ghost stories have become the flavor of this season and this shows how our film industry is going back to the tradition of rich, content-driven cinema, popular writer Sirshendu Mukhopadhyay says.
"Three of my stories - Gosaibaganer Bhoot, Chhaymamoy and Goynar Bakso - have been filmed already and I heard got audience backing. Works of my contemporary writers including late Sunil Gangopadhyay are being taken up for scripting by present day directors. This augurs well for the future of cinema," Shirshendu told PTI.
However, in contrast, love for true literature is on the decline as people are more into instant gratifications, and hooked to more style and hype and less substance, Sirshendu rued.
"With people's foresight dimisnishing on an alarming rate not very sure if the advent of progressive lenses, prescribed for the post-40s generation, can set the malady right," the Sahitya Akademi recipient for Manabjamin said.
"One can improve vision from physical point of view but how can you get back doordrishti. As I am a believer in ghosts, not very sure if the same malady afflicts the apparitions as well," Shirshendu quipped at the launch of new progressive lenses here.
Sirshendu's children's classics Nabiganjer Daitwo, Patalghar and Hirer Angti had also been filmed the last one by late Rituparno Ghosh as his debut film years back.
"We have chosen Shirshendu Mukhopadhyay to unveil the new lenses as he is a literary icon and a true brand ambassador of Bengalee values, humblesness and wit and a popular literary figure having enjoyed immense readership following across ages," a spokesperson said.
Titan Eyecare launched the new ranges of lenses including SPF, Horizon, Signaure across the country on the same day.
