Hollywood star Tom Hanks is in discussions with Clint Eastwood and Warner Bros about starring in a film based on Captain Chesley 'Sully' Sullenberger.

Sullenberger famously landed US Airways Flight 1549 on the Hudson River in 2009, after the jet engines failed from multiple bird strikes.

The emergency landing became known as the 'Miracle on the Hudson', as none of the 155 passengers or crew were fatally injured, according to Deadline.

The retelling will be based on the book "Highest Duty: My Search for What Really Matters", by Sullenberger and Jeffrey Zaslow.

Eastwood is directing the biopic alongside Todd Komarnicki, who has devised the screenplay, as well as Frank Marshall and Allyn Stewart in the producer seats.

Hanks, 58, will next appear in Steven Spielberg's "Bridge of Spies" and is currently filming his third Robert Langdon movie "Inferno".
