Actor Tom Hiddleston tries to avoid social media because he believes it gives off a "distorted reflection" of society.

The 32-year-old star admits he prefers to stay away from the likes of Twitter and Facebook because it doesn't give him a true idea of his fans, reported Contactmusic.

"I try to stay away from it to be honest because I think it becomes a distorted reflection. The enthusiasm I find is quite belying and it's just gratifying that there are people out there who are just interested in the work and the performances and the characters," he said.

The 'Thor: The Dark World' hunk believes it's important to respect his fans because without them admiring his career, he'd be in no position to be referred to as an actor.

"I always think an actor can't call themselves an actor without an audience, so if the audience is there then that's great.
