Rocker Tom Morello has been honoured with the Spirit of Courage Award for his political and social activism.

The 50-year-old 'Rage Against The Machine' star, who champions free speech, economic justice and human rights, was honoured for his work 'fighting for a more fair and just world' by a California-based advocacy group" said The Hollywood Reporter.

Morello performed an acoustic set during the ceremony at The House of Blues in Los Angeles while rockers Kiss, Rise Against and Billy Bragg featured in a video tribute to the rocker.

"It's a great honour because the award itself is an embodiment of all of the struggles and sacrifices of the people involved in the social justice issues for whom I've played music, who do the hard work everyday without any expectation of recognition or awards.

The fact that I'm able to lend my voice to their causes is what makes the award meaningful to me," he said.

The rocker was a fierce supporter of the Occupy Wall Street demonstrations against corporate greed in New York in 2011.

The group, named Courage Campaign, fights for causes including gay rights, political reform and economic issues.
