Top army officer visits Goalpara Sainik School

Lt Gen. KH Singh, GOC 16 Corps, the senior-most officer from Northeast, today visited the Sainik School in Assam's Goalpara to commemorate its golden jubilee.

The Goalpara school is the primary feeder institute in the Northeast for the prestigious National Defence Academy. The visit will be followed by a trip by Singh to the Sainik School at Manipur's Imphal.

Singh, who hails from Manipur, is the first officer from the Northeast who has risen to the rank of Lt Gen. And is presently the senior-most officer from the region.

He joined Sainik School, Goalpara, in 1968 and subsequently entered NDA in 1974 before being commissioned to 2 Rajput (Kalichindi) in 1978.
 

The highlight of Singh's visit was his interaction with the young cadets at the Goalpara school, an Army statement said.
