A round table conference of nearly 100 agricultural experts will be organised in Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar on February 23.

Thirty three progressive farmers, 33 agriculture scientists from all fields and 33 government officers, including ministers and chairmen from different departments associated with agriculture sector will participate in this conference, Haryana's Agriculture Minister O P Dhankar said here today.

He said open dialogue session for ensuring gross income of Rs one lakh per acre will be conducted in this significant conference.

"This will also help in realising the vision of (the) prime minister to double the income of farmers by year 2022," he said.

Detailing about the benefit of recently launched 'Bhavantar Bharpai' scheme, Dhankar urged the farmers to get registered under the scheme by the deadline February 15 and ensure protected price of their produce, including tomato and potato.

"Registration of 850 farmers has been recorded so far. Registration under the scheme is free," he said.

Riding on the success of two consecutive Agri Leadership Summits, Haryana government will organise 3rd chapter of this summit in Rohtak from March 16 to 18, to bring together a large number of progressive farmers from across the country and provide them a platform for interaction with policymakers, scientists and technologists, he said.

Footfall of about one lakh farmers each from different states and other stakeholders associated with agriculture sector were recorded in first two summits organised in Gurugram and Faridabad in the year 2015 and 2017, respectively, Dhankar noted.

Different sessions, workshops and seminars of farmers covering topics on 'Haryana for Fresh', Shifting on Peri-Urban Agriculture, Climate Smart Agriculture, Organic Village, Zero Budget Agriculture, Soil Health and milk production will be organised in this summit.

Ministers of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department from other states, MPs and MLAs interested in farming sector will also be invited in the summit, Dhankar said.

Describing Haryana a bowl of foodgrains, he said the government also wished to make the state a bowl of fruits, flowers, vegetable and fisheries as well.

"Being close to Delhi, our farmers have a potential market to sell their fresh produce daily in the national capital," he added.

Referring to the Swaminathan's recommendation to make agriculture producer-centric along with production-centric, the minister said that the state government had also announced to constitute 'Kisan Kalyan Pradhikaran', which will work exclusively for the welfare of producer farmers.

"In this series, we have also changed the name of Agriculture Department to Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department," he said.
