Top Maoist leaders arrested in Kolkata

"A team of STF intercepted Secretary of Kolkata City committee of CPI-Maoist Avishek Mukherjee along with two of his associates Sunil Mondal and Subhas Roy from the crossing of Tarasankar Sarani and Nityagopal Chatterjee Lane in Tala police station last night," Joint Commissioner of Special Task Force Rajeev Mishra said.

STF also seized several Maoist literature, two improvised firearms, including one semi-automatic arms having six rounds of ammunition, Mishra said.

"The charges were lodged under various sections of IPC for criminal conspiracy, waging war against the country and collecting arms. A charge against under section 25 1B(a) of Arms Act has also been lodged against them," he said.

 

He said 30-year-old Mukherjee has also been known as Raju, Aranya and Sunil Mondal, 30, is also known as Neel, Santanu, Tapan and 45-years-old Subhas Roy is also known as Samir and Ajoy."

The accused were produced before the court of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate, Sealdah today, Mishra said.
