The accident reportedly occurred when Kogi state Governor Idris Wada and his convoy were returning from an official assignment. The accident occurred along Lokoja-Ajaokuta road within the state.
Doctors at the Lokoja Specialist Hospital, where the governor was rushed to for treatment, said he may lose one of his legs.
"He was brought into the intensive care unit with a broken leg," a local website Kuramonews.Com quoted the doctors as saying.
An official source told PTI that the governor was later flown in a helicopter to the oil-rich African country's capital city of Abuja for specialised treatment.
