A high-level meeting between Nagaland and Assam has agreed to "continue with the efforts to resolve the border issues from the chief secretary down to the deputy commissioner level," official sources said here today.

The decision was arrived at a meeting held at the Police Complex in Chumukedima yesterday, Nagaland's Additional Chief Secretary, Toshi Aier said.

The meeting was an offshoot of the August 21 talks held in Guwahati, between the Chief Minister of Nagaland, T R Zeliang and Chief Minister of Assam Tarun Gogoi.

The Nagaland officials were led by Additional Chief Secretary, Toshi Aier while the Commissioner of Upper Assam, Syed Iftikar Hussain and his subordinates represented the Assam government, he said.

The purpose of such bureaucratic level parleys was to inject confidence among the people living close to both sides of the border with the ultimate aim to promote people-to- people contact at the local level, he said.

Stating that from now on such meetings would be a monthly affair, Aier said the next meeting has been scheduled to be held at Jorhat in Assam.
