Top seeds Karunuday, Rishika enter quarterfinals

It was tough a day in office for top seeds in men's and women's singles as both Karunuday Singh and Rishika Sunkara advanced to the quarter-finals of the Fenesta Open National Tennis Championship here today.

Karunuday registered a hard fight 6-4 3-6 6-3 win over PC Vignesh, while Rishika edged past Riya Bhatia 7-5 1-6 7-5 at the R K Khanna Tennis Complex here.

Men's and women's defending champions Mohit Mayur Jayaprakash and Prerna Bhambri both registered easy victories in their second-round matches. Mohit, seeded third in the tournament, got the better of Saurav Sukul 6-2 6-1 while Prerna also registered a comfortable 6-1 6-1 win over T Palani Vale.
 

It was curtains for fifth seed Shaikh Abdullah as he lost 3-6 6-3 0-6 to Siddharth Rawat in men's singles. The second seed Vishnu Vardhan defeated Kunal Anand 6-1 7-6(3), Chandril Sood, Ronit Bisht and V M Ranjeet were the others who made it to the quarter-finals in men's singles.

In women's singles, second seed Shweta Rana defeated Aashima Garg 6-1, 6-2, while fourth seed Vaniya Dangwal was made to work hard before she overcame Ramya Natrajan 6-2 3-6 6-1 in the women's singles pre-quarterfinals.

Also making it to the quarter-finals was fifth seed Amrita Mukherjee, who notched a 6-1 6-1 win over Anjali Thakur while Karman Kaur Thandi edged past Simran Kaur Sethi 7-5 6-3.
