Top two seeds crash out of Khar Gymkhana tennis

Top seed Abdullah Shaikh of Andhra Pradesh and second seed Siddharth Vishwakarma of Uttar Pradesh crashed out of the singles event in the Khar Gymkhana All India Men's Open Tennis Tournament here today.

It was a memorable day for the underdogs as qualifier Faisal Qamar of Rajasthan stunned favourite Shaikh 6-2 6-2, while unseeded Kunal Anand of Delhi, a double-crown winner here in 2011, upset Vishwakarma 6-4 6-2 to storm into the quarter-finals.

In yet another upset, qualifier Shahbaz Khan shunted out eighth seed Rashein Samuel of Karnataka 4-6 7-5 6-1.

Another qualifier Aryan Goveas also advanced to the last eight following a convincing 6-0 6-4 win over Aman Shah in an all-Maharashtra tie.
 

The other seeds lived up to their reputations as third seed Haadin Bava of Maharashtra, fourth seed Suraj Prabodh of Karnataka, fifth seed Anvit Bendre of Maharashtra and sixth seed Vijaj Kannan of Tamil Nadu progressed to the last eight stage.
