It was an emotional moment for the brutally tortured teenage domestic help, who was rescued from a house in Vasant Kunj, as she was reunited with her mother after four years at a hospital here today.

Initially, the girl's mother appeared dazed as she could not recognise her daughter, as months of agony and suffering had taken its toll.

As she struggled for words, tears rolled down her cheeks and she hugged her daughter.

The mother-daughter duo spoke to the each other in Santhali, a tribal language and had lunch together.

The girl's head and body had sustained injuries and her blank expression spoke of trying times she had undergone in the past four years.

The victim's mother had reached Delhi at 7 am from Sahebganj in Jharkhand along with Jharkhand Police and Sahibganj Labour Inspector, Executive Director of NGO Shakti Vahini, which played a major role in rescuing the girl, Rishikant told PTI.

From the railway station she was taken to Jharkhand Bhavan to complete some formalities.

At around 12.45 pm, she reached the hospital with the officials and met her daughter.

The victim, who was allegedly tortured, starved and illegally confined by her employers, was rescued in a joint operation by an NGO and Delhi Police on Monday.

In the past four years, she was placed as a domestic help in Noida and Lajpat Nagar before being employed by Vandana Dhir (50), who headed the corporate communications division of a reputed multi-national company.

Dhir and her 85-year-old mother allegedly beat her up regularly and kept her naked or in minimal cloths so that she does not runaway.

The girl reportedly told police that she had been working with her employers for the past one year and they used to regularly hit her with sticks, kicked her, punched her and inflicted injuries with a knife-like object.

Dhir was arrested on October 1 and is in judicial custody till October 15.
