The Bokakhat Assembly constituency is poised to witness a tough fight between sitting Congress MLA Arun Phukan and Asom Gana Parishad President Atul Bora with protection of famous one-horned rhinos of Kaziranga becoming a major poll issue.

Congress and AGP with both fighting neck and neck to woo the voters on April 4.

Phukan is working hard to retain his seat by defeating Bora in this constituency under Golaghat district by accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi of making false tall promises and BJP of releasing a "planted" opinion poll result in which it emerged as the winner to "mislead" the people of Assam.

The sitting MLA is attempting to take an edge by highlighting developmental work done by Congress at the grass root level by constructing roads and bridges, anti-erosion schemes during the UPA regime at the Centre.

On the other hand the AGP contestant is buoyed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi campaigning for him as an alliance partner nominee here.

The Prime Minister had urged the people to vote for the AGP contestant for solving the most burning issue of saving rhinos in Kaziranga and flushing out poachers to protect the pride of Assam.

Kaziranga National Park, famous for its one-horned rhinos, falls within the limits of this Assembly seat.

Altogether six candidates are in fray here which include Independents Anima Gogoi, Bijoy Kutum, Mritunjoy Pegu and Reba kanta Gogoi, besides Atul Bora and Arun Phukan.
