To increase the inflow of tourists from America to West Bengal and other eastern states, the US consular office and Indo-American Chamber of Commerce (IACC) are organising a travel and tourism meet in the city.

IACC National vice-president Vasant Subramanyan said that the two-day meet would showcase the popular tourist destinations of West Bengal and other eastern regional states with the view to attracting more US tourists.

He said that there was also a need to fund tourism infrastructure in the East through the PPP route in addition to commencement of US flights to the city.

Anil Punjabi, chairman of Travel Agents Federation of India (ER), said that seasonal US tourists inflow to the city was around 3000 which was growing.

The tourists inflow increases particularly during the Durga Puja and Christmas, he said.

The two-day meet, being held as a part of tourism cooperation between the two countries, starting May five would be attended by the tourism ministers of West Bengal, Assam, Jharkhand and Odisha.
