Town Planning officer held for accepting Rs 1 lakh bribe

A Town Planning Department officer in Vizianagaram municipality was arrested by Anti Corruption Bureau for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 1 lakh for extending official favour.

"Town Planning Supervisor, Cheedi Venkatata Narayana Rao (44) was caught red-handed at his residence at Thoapalem in the town when he was demanding and accepting the bribe from the complainant for processing his application for issuing building plan approval," the agency stated in a release.

The bribe amount was recovered from the officer's home, it said.

He will be produced before the ACB court in Visakhapatnam, the release stated.
