Around 50 activists of Thanthai Periyar Dravida Kazhakam (TPDK) today briefly detained a Kerala-State owned bus in the city and staged a demonstration, seeking immediate stoppage of the reported sealing work of a valve through which drinking water from Siruvani Dam is supplied to the city.
TPDK General Secretary K Ramakrishnan, who led the demonstration, alleged Kerala was taking indirect revenge over the Supreme Court order on Mullaperiyar Dam in raising the storage level in favour of Tamil Nadu.
Some workers were arrested for staging demonstration, official sources said.
According to reports in a section of media, the Irrigation department officials in Kerala were engaged in closing one of the four pipelines, supplying water from Siruvani to Coimbatore.
